Merida, MX
Merida part 2. The second half of our trip was spent examining the old Mayan ruins of Uxmal and searching for expensive bottles of mezcal. The ruins were larger than I expected and sprawled across a university campus's worth of land. The crumbling architecture was just a remnant. No ghosts remained. I painted a few trees in my downtime and watched the Yucatan clouds. The restored hacienda we stayed at was kind of a palace of its own. We had a private balcony and private mezcal stash (supplied by the grocery store down the street). I loved spending time outside the United States and immersing myself in a new culture with new people. I did my best with the language. The fruit and food were fresh and vibrant. Infrastructure and authority felt less established than I'm used to but the city still felt safe and welcoming to me.
